The programs of Cybersecurity Awareness Month start from Sunday
The 8th (internationally 20th) Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM) October program is going to start in the country from Sunday. The theme of the program is 'Secure Our World'. Various organizations/institutions across the country are joining this program under the guidance of National Committee on Cybersecurity Awareness (NCCA) to build a safe and secure digital world. NCCA demanded the government to declare October as 'National Cyber Security Awareness Month' in Bangladesh like many other countries.
The month-long campaign will focus on four things – multi-layered security on IDs, strong passwords, phishing detection and regular software updates. By following these, online users can create their own security zone online. Free online registration will continue throughout the month of October to receive guidance on participating in the program.
The program of Cybersecurity Awareness Month October-2023 is going to be implemented under the auspices of mobile phone operator Robi and technology service providers Sophos and Cyber Paradise. In addition, Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCAF), Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), Cyber Support for Women and Children (CSWC), and Bangladesh System Administrators Forum (BDSAF), an organization of technology professionals.
National Committee on Cybersecurity Awareness (NCCA) convenor technology expert Dr. Ejazul Haque and member secretary Barrister Rashna Imam said in a joint statement, 'Starting from mobile phones to internet-connected devices used at home, various devices are deeply connected with our lives. With the evolution of technology, cyber crooks are also working hard to break the security of technology and disrupt commercial and personal life. The program for the month of October aims to highlight emerging challenges in the cyber world and provide simple actionable steps that users can follow to create a safe and secure digital world for themselves and their loved ones.'
Apart from grassroot level, the central program this time includes a month-long SMS campaign across the country, workshops for social activists from across the country, cyber security discussion meetings, thematic webinars with prominent personalities in the four weeks of October, social media campaigns etc.
Engineer Mushfiqur Rahman, another member of the National Committee, said that there is a risk of information security in the use of foreign software. In the interest of national security, the practice of using domestically produced software in the information technology sector should be increased. And to ensure this, it is necessary to create our own skilled manpower in technology. In addition to ensuring the security of the country, foreign income will also increase through the export of technology.
Various countries including America since 2004, Norway since 2011 and Europe since 2012 have been celebrating October as 'Cyber Security Awareness Month'. Month-long programs are taken to keep citizens safe from cyber-piracy.
